Barbara (Johnson) Peterson: Submitted by her
daughter Starlie Espinoza

John and Barbara moved to California in 1982.
Starlie had relocated to California and since she
is their only child, they packed it up and came along.

Barbara has four grandchildren and one
great grandchild:  Jessica (28) married to Gene
in 1997 and have a son, Brandon (4), Jennifer (27),
Jamie (18) and Johnathan (16).

Barbara retired in 1993, the year after John
passed away (1992).   Dad was blind for almost two
full years before he died and Mom did so much.
In 1994 we brought her parents, Marie and Kermit
Johnson, to California.  Mom was their caretaker for
five years, They both passed away in 1999.  Now she
only has David (my husband), Jamie, Johnathan
and I to pick up after! Just kidding, but she just never
stops (or sits down) for too long.

After 1999, Mom's hip started bothering her.
Our yard really started to fall apart!  She couldn't do
much of the gardening she has always enjoyed.
(In the past she had dug out three deep fish ponds
in our back yard.  We had fish 6 inches long in those
ponds.  Guess she was trying to bring a little of
Wisconsin to the west.  No fishing signs were posted.)
Arthritis had made it almost impossible to do anything.
In the fall of 2002, she had a total hip replacement and
ever since she has been pain free.  We keep the
shovel hidden.

Mom enjoys keeping in touch with Jack and Barb
Mattison and Bill and Bev Bune.  It's been eight years
since she's been back to Wisconsin now.
She was originally a California girl and will probably
continue to be one!

It's funny how time just seems to fly by,
going faster as each year passes.  I know that we
all are still 18 inside, it's just that the everything
else seems to show the wear and tear.
So as Barbara's daughter, we both wish everyone well.

Rosalie Holden Meier:  We have now lived in Prescott Valley, AZ for 22
years.  We still enjoy our almost annual trips back to good old Wisconsin -
have lots of great memories of high school and growing up there.
Somehow Spring Valley just doesn't seem as it did back in the 50's!
I think I have finally retired, although I keep getting called back in
action now and then to the doctor's office where I worked for so many
years.  Tom and I spend lots of time searching out Spring Valley antiques,
and have found a few things even in AZ , believe it or not.  We have
three daughters - Julie is chief psychologist at a prison in New Jersey ,
Deb lives in Hastings, MN, and Ann lives here in Prescott Valley.
We spend some of our time babysitting for Ann's two little girls
after school.  Her husband is presently serving with the US Army
in Kuwait.  He was with the Prescott National Guard and was called up.
Had a nice visit with Loretta Lynum Jensen and Eric a few weeks ago
when they were in AZ and will soon be seeing Bob and Carol Meier
when they are out herre for a conference and plan to spend some
time with us.  Looking forward to our big 50 - hope to see lots of you
there.

Jim Duberke - I retired from teaching in the Ladysmith School District
13 years ago and have enjoyed every minute of retirement. My hobbies
are still fishing, fishing and fishing. Reading is a high priority of
mine also. We do spend our summer in Hayward WI at Lake Chippewa
Campground as "seasonal" campers. We have a large trailer in place
that stays there all year and we move up in May and don't move back
home until September. I do get to do lots of fishing and hit the casino
occasionally also. We have spent the month of February in Panama City
Beach, FL, for the last two years and two years before that in Gulf
Shores, AL. We have friends who meet us in Panama City Beach and stay
the month also. Two years ago Jim and Marji Price were able to spend
some time with us also, in Panama City and we had a good time
reminiscing then!! Our oldest child, Kathy, is married and living in
Portland Oregon where both are gainfully employed and our other child,
Kraig, is living in Hudson WI, working for the state of Minnesota. He
just moved there from California two years ago so it is nice having him
                           nearby.

Greetings from Tom Forthun in Torrance, California.  Since retiring from the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1995, I've been teaching part time.  I returned to LAUSD to teach ninth and tenth-grade English for three hours a day at a high school less than a mile from my home.  In addition, I teach band three afternoons a week at a high school in Torrance.

My wife, Marlene, and I have five children ranging in age from twenty-two to thirty-two (as of May 2003).  Three of our children are presently living with us.

I enjoy following the stock market, searching the internet, and attending musical events.  Last weekend we saw Big Band Dance Party at the Norris Theater.  We plan to hear the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and the Pied Pipers at the end of this month at the Torrance Cultural Center.  Later, we will see Shirley Jones and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra at Orange Coast College.  I rehearse every other Saturday with a seventeen piece jazz band.  Occasionally we play for local events.

We were delighted to spend some time with  Mary Louise and Craig Olson in the San Diego area in January of 2002.  We also enjoyed reminiscing with Dick and Sara Gueldner at dinner in the Redondo Beach area in August of 2001.

Marlene and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at our reunion.
Best wishes for good health, peace, joy and happiness.
